IN-HOUSE PRODUCTION – THE IVORY TOWER

The Ivory Tower by Ziad Foty
Short, Montage | 5 min | 2015

This film looks at life of an Arab American Ph.D. student and his struggle of being kicked out of a university. The picture begins with Samer being told by a disgruntled group of faculty members asking him to leave the school. Samer with his head down and his pride shaken, packs his bags and leaves the small university town to head back home. While in the car he begins to piece together the events that lead to him being kicked out. In an elaborate and highly stylized set of dream sequences, Samer begins to remember the powerful vacuum that he got caught up in through his bold voicing of controversial opinions in class. This memory recall makes him question his initial decision to leave. By the end Samer must choose to continue his journey or return to fight and stand up for his rights.
